Chris Rupp, Deer Park High School's head baseball coach, pours liquid soap on a plastic sheet in preparation for his baseball camp-ending slip-and-slide last year.
School’s almost out, and that means Deer Park ISD is again offering a wealth of summer camps. It’s a terrific opportunity for youngsters to use the lazy, hazy days of the summer break to learn from coaches and possibly even former players.
Go to https://bityl.co/CP93 for information about camps for soccer, baseball, tennis, basketball, volleyball and football.
All of these camps will accept walk-up registrations, but online sign-up is preferred. After locating a specific camp, register through Rank One.
So, here are the dates for these camps.
The Deer Park boys soccer camp will be held June 6-9 from 8-10 a.m. for any elementary school-age youngster. For students in junior high through incoming ninth grade, the camp will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Clyde Abshier Stadium.
The fee is $40 for campers in pre-kindergarten through the first grade, $75 for those in grades 2-5 and $100 for those in grades 6-9. There is a discount for multiple children from one family. For more information, email Jerry Hurtado at jurtado@dpisd.org.
The annual Deer Park Championship Baseball Camp arrives June 6-10 for 6-year-olds through incoming freshmen. It will be the first camp on Jim Kethan Field’s brand-new artificial surface.
The camp will hit all the fundamentals to help a child become a better player. This camp typically has current players participate.
Children should bring their own equipment and a water bottle and come dressed in shorts and T-shirt. The camp will provide a water refill station. The camp will end with the children “practicing” their sliding abilities on a soap-and-water-covered plastic sheet.
The sign-up fee is $100. For more information call head coach Chris Rupp at 713-231-6009.
The Deer Park boys basketball camp will run June 6-9 and is open to all youngsters entering the third through ninth grades.
Incoming third- and fourth-graders will attend camp at San Jacinto Elementary School from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Students incoming in grades 5-8 will be at Deer Park High School’s South campus for the same time, and brand-new ninth graders will be at the South campus from 12:30-3 p.m.
The cost is $85 for DPISD students and $95 for others. For more information, call coach Ryan Bright at 832-668-7246.
